April1004 is on a distinguished road
Hi,

I want to do a simulation to investigate the impact of the gap-width between foresail (jib) and mainsail of a sailing boat.

The simulations shall have those three parameters:
- Wind angle of attack
- Angle of the foresail
- Angle of the mainsail

I know, that I can adjust the wind angle by changing the OpenFOAM-files for the initial conditions. Creating a script for this is not a problem.

But for the foresail and mainsail angle, I think I have to create a specific model and mesh for each combination of parameters.
I tried to do this with BlockMesh, but I stopped doing this, because "inner walls" are not allowed in BlockMesh, which makes this very complicated and time-consuming.

I think what I am trying to do is called "parametric study". Is this correct?

Do you have suggestions on how to do this? I am also willing to read other literature, that you suggest.

I have an informatics degree, so doing some python- or UNIX scripting shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you very much in advance

There are many tutorials on how to do this.

Beware, this will take time and effort and only you can implement it.
