Default generating cylinder sharpedges for snappyHexMesh without stl

Hello,
the standard process to snap and mesh correctly the sharp edges of a cylinder with snappyHexMesh looks like:
.use surfaceFeatureExtract on the cylinder stl file to generate the emesh file
.specify the emesh file on the castellation feature section of the snappyHexMesh dict

Well,
would it be another way to do it such as:
.using a searchableCylinder in snappyHexMesh and getting its edges
.and thus not using surfaceFeatureExtract and stl file anymore ?
