SnappyHexMesh featureEdgeMesh

I am testing the new meshing tool. Does anyone have an idea how to create the needed 'features'? I could not find any tool to write this featureEdgeMesh. Thanks! Fabian |

what do you need "features" for? The process runs without. Afaik this is only for feature line prevention which is not yet implemented. Do you know about requirements of the stl import surface? Does is have to be closed an manifold? Regards |
The attache picture is actuall
The attache picture is actually a rectangular cubic room with a round inlet. As one can see, there is a need of 'features' in some way.

As said before AFAIK feature lines are not yet implemented. Maybe the file "someLine.eMesh"; // file containing edge mesh" corresponds to this not yet implemented feature. So if the mesh has the maximum allowed refinemient (minium possible cell size) which it seems to have looking at the picture I guess there is nothing more you can do at the moment....

The mesher does not do feature
The mesher does not do feature lines - neither geometric features nor topological features (e.g. patch boundaries).
The someline.eMesh is a file containing points and edges where you want additional refinement. See featureEdgeMesh class in edgeMesh library. |

One of my colleagues is workin
One of my colleagues is working on geometric feature line capturing at the moment and our current status was presented in Milan. As Mattijs mentioned, this functionality is not present in the 1.5 version of snappyHexMesh.
You can use any kind of triangulated surface. It doesn't have to be cleaned or closed or manifold, although you will mesh both sides if it isn't closed and the holes are large or large in number. |

Hi,
Any idea when feature line capturing will be available? (rough time line) - I couldn't attend the Milan workshop unfortunately (other side of the world). Or alternatively, any workarounds to fix the edges after meshing? In one of my models I am having problems with non-flat and jagged patch edges causing flow instabilities. Cheers, Andrew |

For now I gave up on snappyHexMesh for geometries with circular edges, and I am using enGrid with some excellent results (http://217.6.151.88/cms/index.php?id=4). Version 1.0 is out, with native OpenFOAM export capability. Give it a try! Regards, Jose Santos |

Turn down your mesh quality wishes. If not possible to reach wanted mesh quality, it fails to find correspondence to geometry. Maybe this helps a little.

snappyHexMesh - feature lines in version 1.6?
Hi All,
Does anyone know if feature lines have yet been implemented in snappyHexMesh/OpenFOAM 1.6? From my experience this and more robust near-wall layer addition are the only weakness/limitations of snappyHexMesh, which is otherwise a great utility. Thanks! Brent |

I do not think this has made its way into 1.6.x. However there seems to be some self-made solutions hanging around somewhere. I guess they are not yet publicly available.
