After great difficulty I was finally able to use snappyHexMesh to mesh the external flow domain about a geometry I had. I am soon writing a tutorial about that, because I couldn't find good tutorials for snappy elsewhere.
My problem now is with setting boundary conditions. I have a rectangular block created using blockMesh. I had set the boundaries inflow and outflow etc. How will I set the boundary condition for the STL geometry's surface? In what Dict file do I set it? can I just add the surface in the boundary file in polyMesh directory? After running snappy I got two folders 0.001 and 0.002. Do I have to copy the contents of these into a "constant" folder for running a solver on it? I know my questions are so primitive. Please bear with me. Thank you |

Hi Prapanj,
Did you use a single STL file? every STL-region in STL-file (ASCII) starts with "solid NAME", where NAME is probably not present. (and ends with "endsolid NAME"). These regionnames, if present, are kept up by sHM and added to the boundary-file. So your problem is probably, how to assign the names to the regions. If you have only one region it might be easy to just add it manually. How did you get the STL-File? When using "Salome" it is "relativly" easy to import IGES/STEP, name face-regions and export as single STL-files. (every region one STL-file, which can be called by sHM). The polyMesh in last folder, here 0.002 (as it is the mesh after snapping), should be copied in "constant" folder to move on, at least I do so. I am currently using only a single STL file that I pulled out of the internet. I was having the question about the multiple STLs. I found a thread that talks about a script to use with blender, so that we can get named ascii STLS without having to manually copy each STL and make it one file. Anyway, the link you provided was really helpful. I get a clearer picture now. Thank you.

you can also use the multiple files for sHM, just as one STL-file in geometry-definition.
Salome works on my OpenSUSE well and I guess the interface is more familiar than the one of Blender. Marco |

Hi, sorry, Maybe I made a mistake. I found a tutorial , I thought it was yours.
http://www.cfd-online.com/OpenFOAM_D...s/1/11251.html Because I saw that your are going to give a tutorial , then I found one after that, I thought it was yours accordingly. I was careless. Sorry, will you give another tutorial? Wendy |
