Hi Forum,

few days ago i posted a question concerning
mesh tools (hex mesh) which are "convinient"
to use and their meshes are easy importable
to OpenFoam. Especially i asked for the big
differences of CuBit or Truegrid and possible
alternatives which are not to costly.

I got only one answer (thanks for that). But
could somebody give more information ?

regards

Marcus

Marcus,
There's a linux distro called CAELinux that has a lot of nice tools in it. Among them is a program called SALOME-MECA which is a pre-processing sort of program. There's a tutorial on their site which goes through the creation of a mesh for use in OpenFOAM and the OpenFOAM analysis. It's pretty handy and you may want to take a look at it.

Good luck,
Mike J.

Marcus,

I think the problem is that these tools are very rare. I am looking into similar things and I am still struggling. I have some posts about that:

Are you looking for some more automatic hexa meshing (cut-cell like?) or some block-structered meshing (ICEM-Hexa like?) For automatic I think LBIE has potential but there is some development left to do I can not do by myself (read stl, decomposing of bad quality hexas,...):

If you are looking for some ICEM like block-structured mesher try LSPREPOST. It is binary free but can only export Nastran.

Hi Bastil,

Indeed, LBIE looks quite interesting.
I looked at the thread you linked and decided to dowload the software. However, as you already pointed out, there is no stl import.
What is the produre you use to import the models you want to mesh? And are you using this software for internal or external analysis?

Regards,

Vincent

Vincent,

I intend to use it for both internal and extenral flows. However I have done no more than the tutorial so far. I could not generate surfaces in the needed format so I decided to work on a stl export. However my programming skills are not yet sufficiant.
Another problem is that hexahedrals sometimes get flat - in this case you net do tedompose them into other shapes for CFD use. This is another feature to be coded.
My liked thread was intended to start a development group but nothing happends so far :-( Maybe this could start a interest group now which could start some work on the topic?

Regards.

Hi, BastiL!

What do you think of GMSH? My case is flow around bridge deck, which one do you suggest?

BTW, I cannot login in the site you posted, could you send me a copy of LBIE to my email, thanks a lot!

Best Regards, /Daniel
