Mesh generation from dirty surface meshes
Hi all,
I want to collect some ideas about my aim to run a case from which I only have dirty surface meshes. I do not have any geometry. Surface meshes represents geometry perfectly, however have free edges, overlappings,... From a commercial point of view this is good for surface wrapping or a tool like Harpoon. However, I want to use free software. Any ideas? Gmsh could be possible: maybe convert into volumes and group them, mesh afterwards. However I do not know how to do. What oter ideas? |
Hi,
Without knowing the det
Hi,
Without knowing the details of your mesh, you can try tetgen. It can take surface mesh and generate a volume mesh from it. pei |
Or you can try SALOME www.salo
Or you can try SALOME www.salome-platform.org

Hi,
both tools as far as I know have the disadvantage that surface mesh has to be absolutely clean (no interesections, free edges,...) My surface mesh is dirty. I need to repair this e.g. by wrapping or performing boolean operations on surfacemesh not on geometry (!) or I need to reconstruct geometry... |
Hm, to perform CAD cleaning as
Hm, to perform CAD cleaning as a prestep towards meshing.... that's tough. One tool would be ANSA, another Gambit, but both are commercial so... not good for you.
I saw that Blender is able to read iges file formats. I think it has boolean operations with different primitives, but when I asked on their discussion list if it is appropriate to use it as CAD clean software.... I got no answer (at least until now). Dragos |

Hi,
please read my requirements carefully: I do not have geometry, only dirty (intersecting, free edges,...) surface meshes from which I need to start volume meshing. Maybe one way would be to do geometry cleanup, however: Therefore a surface reconstruction is essential first. |
Sorry, my bad!
But still thos
Sorry, my bad!
But still those above should help you since they are able to read stl file formats too, and work with them. Dragos |
So Tetgen and Salome can perfo
So Tetgen and Salome can perform boolean operations on surface meshes or do surface reconstruction? That are really good news...

You can also have a look to jc
You can also have a look to jcae (http://jcae.sf.net)

jcae does not seem to be able
jcae does not seem to be able to do boolean operations on meshes or surface reconstruction, does it?
