Hi everybody!

I have built a Fluent mesh in ICEM, that I have converted into a OpenFoam mesh.

Seems like the conversion was running well. However, I have one internal surface, which shoud be defined as a wall. OpenFoam makes internal out of it:

Patch walls_plate is internal to the mesh and is not being added to the boundary.

Its just a surface and you can see it as a internal air guide plate that is very thin.
Of course, I could give this plate ia physical thickness in ICEM, but as I am not allowed to do that, what can I do? Is it possible to define it as an internal wall afterwards?
Fluent usually handels this problem as it creates an additional shadow wall: wall and wall_shadow.

Can anybody help me please?

Thanks in advance!

Hi again!

Seems like I have solved it. Using fluent3DMeshToFoam is treats it correctly. I have not tried it yet, but its looking good

Regards,
Sebastian

Hey Sebastian,

i have the opposite problem!
I want an internal patch and OF transforms it in a wall.
I made a part of a compressor with ICEM and want to rotate the mesh.
How was the name of you internal patch or do you have any ideas how to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Sarah!

Sorry for the late answer. Have you already solved the problem?
If not, maybe you can try the following:

- try to declare the wall as internal surface in icem

if you have fluent or even tgrid:
- open the .msh file there and change the wall into a interal surface.

then you can save it again as .msh.

Good luck!

Hey Sebastian,

well the mesh is working (at least OF says Mesh ok after checkMesh).
I just deleted the walls in the boundary file, but im not sure if its calculating the right stuff

How can i change the walls to internal walls with ICEMCFD?

Thanks

Sarah

Hi Sarah!

Well, I am not sure if this works. I have to say that I am not so experienced in OF. But you may give it a try

I also never used ICEM CFD to define BCs. But I know in general its possible. You can find it in the Menu: Output -> Boundary Copnditions (second button from left). There you can choose, which BCs your walls should have.

Good luck with it!
