OpenFOAM-v2012 released
ESI OpenCFD Ltd. is pleased to announce the release of OpenFOAM-v2012.
The version released in December 2020 brings a lot of exciting new functionality and extension to the existing ones. Let us, among others, highlight a few:
In Meshing:
- SnappyHexMesh - New thicknessModel allowing more precise y+ control in the first-cell layer
- SnappyHexMesh - Improved control of gap refinement
- extrudeMesh - New polyLine extrusion model allows to specify more exiting extrusion path
- blockMesh - Improved write-vtk command-line option and simplified edge definition
In Numerics:
- User selectable schemes for high aspect-ratio meshes
- Lagrangian flow has improved particle tracking on moving meshes
- MPPIC sub-models have been transferred to kinematic cloud to improve performance and allow interaction with moving meshes
- Function1 allows setting of a period (more intuitive for slow oscilations)
In Solvers, Physics and Boundary Conditions:
- New vibro-acoustics solver using finite area model to solve a thin vibrating shell
- Improved turbulence treatment on the phase interface to reduce spurious velocities for interFoam and interIcoFoam
- Viscosity models were generalized for easier implementation of new non-newtonian models
- New buoyancyTurbSource implemented to incorporate effects of buoyancy on turbulence in incompressible and compressible flows
- New ACMI scaling option can be used to control coupling and blockage behaviour (simple model of a closing valve)
- Improved outletMappedUniformInlet inlet BC
Many new features and improvements could be found in the post-processing, improved functionality of redistributePar utility.
Compiler configuration and the installation scripts were improved as well.
OpenFOAM is distributed as:- Source code
- Precompiled packages for:
- Ubuntu
- RedHat/Fedora/CentOS
- OpenSUSE
- Windows 10 Linux Sub-system (Ubuntu)
- Cross-compiled executables for MS Windows 10
- Docker container
