Before OpenFOAM 2.1, updates were far between. Now, it is hard to keep up with them. My guess is that the availability of preprocessing tools, and in particular Helyx-OS has made OpenFOAM more popular.

Native installation pack for OSX
Hi Dan,
Do you have any information whether ENGYS has plans to release native installation package of Helyx-OS for OSX users? In fact, the Mac is still not considered as a scientific platform but since OpenFOAM can be compiled on OSX, it might be a good idea to support that OS, as well. In case there is no such a plan, are you aware of any detailed guideline how to compile the source on OSX? Regards, Schwarczi |
Any updates with Helyx-OS? Thanks.

Bruno & Jose,
There is a news release on another thread here (so as to not spam this thread). Like you mentioned Bruno, there are several bug fixes and general compatibility updates to bring HELYX-OS forward. Bruno beat me to the reply before the news release was posted :D [ Moderator note, 3h later: Moved this post and the 2 posts before the one above, from the aforementioned thread: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...pyhexmesh.html ] |
Thank you very much, I am an avid user of your software.

Helyx-OS behaving strangely (stuck and cannot run a previously stopped case)
I just installed Helyx-OS v2.3 and it got stuck after I stopped a run by doing CTRL-C at the terminal where helyx-OS was run from. Now, the "Run" button just doesn't do anything and Helyx-OS behaves as if it were running (minus the terminal window showing the run). I went and erased my latest time saved at 2000 iterations (for every processor), but the residuals table still shows about 2500 which is where I stropped it and the "Run" button is in gray.
Thanks very much in advance |
Hi,
Is Helix-OS V2.3 also compatible with openFOAM 2.3.1? Or only with 2.4? Thanks, Paulo |
@vatavuk
It is designed to be compatible with the OF v2.4.0. The previous version of HELYX-OS works with OF v2.3.0 @JR22 Thanks for the post. This error happens when you kill HELYX-OS from the GUI in which it was launched? i.e. the GUI is not killed entirely and keeps going? |
@chegdan
Hi, Yes. That is exactly what occurred. I tried deleting the mech and everything within the processors, but it still thinks it is going. Is there a way to let it know it is over? I tried stop/kill from the GUI, but it hangs in the window. By the way, this version works great... I've put it through a lot of pain and only had the minor issue above. Thank you very much |
Because cntrl-c (i.e. sending SIGINT, that can be ignored by the program) it is slightly different than a "kill" that uses the processor ID or performed from a system monitor. To truly stop something, you are better off killing than using control-C. I will see what the developers say and see what the plans are for SIGINT handling.
Also, thanks for the feedback we're glad you find it in good shape. Keep trying to break it and let me know if you do! Quote:

OpenFOAM version compatibility
It looks like Helyx-OS only works with OpenFOAM v 2.4 -- Is that still correct? I just want to be sure before I download and install that version.
|
This is correct, the currently released version works for OpenFOAM 2.4.0.

Grayed "run" button Helyx-OS
Hi Chegdan
Thank you for your support with Helyx-OS, i find it great :D I am actually calculating heat transfer in a double facade and after the Helyx-OS GUI suddenly froze, i tried to kill the process and start Helyx-OS again. Unfortunatly after restart, i experienced the same problem as JR22. Did you find a solution? This problem occured several times by other calculations. Thanks a lot for your answer! Quote:

Thanks for your work on this software. I wonder whether there will be a release for openfoam 5? thanks.
|
I am having a hard time to find HELYX OS Documentation. Especially some tutorials and use cases. Is there a link I could find that information at.
Also the ParaVIEW is showing an error - Could not find valid openfoam mesh. What would that mean? |
Hi,
Is Helyx-OS compatible with OpenFoam V18 or 19? This GUI seems very interesting. Thank you for your answer. FM. |

Connecting HELYX to OpenFOAM and ParaView
Hey guys,
I'm completely new in CFD. I need to simulate a stream of liquid inside a cylinder, so I want to set a first simple case using Salome and HELYX. After I got in know with the case setting, I want to get more complex. But step by step. I created a stl-file in Salome and installed Helyx OS together with OpenFOAM 4.x and ParaView 5.4.1 on Ubuntu (via Oracle VM on Windows). But connecting OpenFOAM and ParaView hasn't worked yet. Could someone please tell me, if it's possible to use HELYX-OS together with OpenFOAM 4.x an ParaView 5.4.1? Thank you! Franco |
Any updates planned for Helyx-OS ?:p
