(open and free) OpenFOAM Discussion and training. NOw no need to travel

Dear All,
This is to invite everyone for a google+ broadcast session, who use OpenFOAM at following levels:
1.Freelance Users.
2.Beginners
3.Experts.
4.Explorers.
Students/PhD Researchers are invited too.( your experience will let each one of us learn a lot)

Most of the OpenFOAM workshop and training requires us to travel, this require no travelling. Though this is not a problem if one has good funding, however it would be great if we people can share our experience through online OpenFOAM session at google+ Broadcast.
Drop you thoughts and gmail ids(pls message us ur gmail id if you want keep your privacy) of you, for us to contact invite and add you to this session.

Success of this openFOAM freelance session will depend on each one of us. So please drop in your thoughts and LET US discus our opeanFOAM on this online session.
Date will be decided taking into account interest of participants.

Thank you.

Note: Reply back on post and message to this id you id.

Nice idea. Just some remarks:
  • One way for people to tell whether you think that the idea is important is by looking at how well you spellchecked it and how well used emphasis is (bold starts in the middle of a word?). I know I should be the last one to complain about these things but at least the title should be
  • Your point about travel is one side of medal: but this videomeeting thing has its downsides too: for instance it annoys co-workers, it is easier for some people to set aside time for traveling than to say "consider me unavailable for the next 2 hours" if it is nothing associated with a concrete project
But I don't want to come across as a party-pooper: the Workshop started with a posting and a text-list of participants (or so I'm told). So: start small and start with something concrete: round up some people you know (to have a critical mass), set a date, publish it, publish it again, do it, don't be frustrated if the first time around only two extra people turn up, during the date set up a followup-data, publish the results and try again (Rome wasn't destroyed in a day)

So: thumbs up for your initiative, good luck and be persistent

Hi, CFDkid,

Face to face meeting/discussions is always the best/productive way. But, traveling definitely is a big headache for me. So, this is a good alternative. Please send me an invite: phsieh2009@gmail.com

Thanks!

Could you give an overview of what happened it in the last hangout (because that might get people interested).

BTW: for setting up the date, have you considered http://doodle.com to vote (you supply a choice of timeslots, send the links to those who expressed interest - I wouldn't post it here on the messageboard)

Ah. And also: when announcing it use a date ("next monday" means that people will have to look up the date of the post)

phsieh2005 December 8, 2012 06:55

Yes, Bernhardt has a good point on the time and date. I am interested in join, but, it was held during working hours and I had to go to meetings. I am wondering if it is possible to have it during weekends. But, it is a good idea to have a vote on the time and let people express their interest if they can join.

Hello Members,

Thank you for your view points.

After success of first meet, we plan to conduct second meet with members who could not join us last time, with same agenda.
As google+ allows maximum 10 members. We can discritize the meet in two meets.

Its our passion for openFOAM that keeps us driving.

Please post suitable time for meet, on working day ? (It will not be possible to work weekend. sorry)
Date will be decided after time is decided, use GMT unit as members are from all over world. We will try best to include maximum members.

(it will take time to converge this type of online meet, so be patience)

pechwang December 17, 2012 10:49

Hello,
For some reason I missed the first meeting. I heard that there was a voting on the time and date. But I cannot find the link. I'm in Detroit, US. And there is a 5-hour delay with the GMT. Please send me an invitation for the second meeting. And I haven't used Google+ before, could you please post a brief instruction on how to join the meeting? Thank you very much.

How about creating a g+ community for this?
Posting email addresses on the forum is just silly.

The g+ community could also be a place to collect links to openfoam tutorials and help pages.

That was always the idea behind the Wiki. Which has the advantage that you don't need a Google-Account

Count me in!!

Hello CFDKid!
I am glad to hear about this development . It would be an honor to learn from experts and students regarding practical application of OpenFOAM. I always wanted to try OpenFOAM out for my freelance work, but now I have to resort to other tools. The scalability offered by OpenMPI is astounding. Please add me to your invite list. My email is praveengambhir16@gmail.com
