Yesterday we at FSD blueCAPE Lda have released blueCFD-Core 2020-1, which provides OpenFOAM 8 as a native build for Windows, with OpenFOAM binaries acting as normal Windows applications.

The installer for blueCFD-Core 2020-1 is installed separately from blueCFD-Core 2017, therefore both installations can coexist.

Released elements are:
The source code provided for the port of OpenFOAM 8 has been released here, as well as of ThirdParty-8 here.
As mentioned above, the development infrastructure is based on MSys2 and instructions for developing in a clean installation of MSys2 will be provided at openfoamwiki.net, as soon as possible.
For a complete list of bug reports, issues and wishes that have been submitted to the blueCFD-Core project, see the Issue Tracker page. For example, a complete list of issues and tasks that were conducted for developping blueCFD-Core 2020-1, are available there: milestone blueCFD-Core 2020-1.

Disclaimers:
  • FSD blueCAPE is responsible for the development and maintenance of the blueCFD®-Core project.
  • blueCFD® is a registered trade mark of FSD blueCAPE Lda.
  • FSD blueCAPE Lda is an FS Dynamics company.
  • This offering is not approved or endorsed by OpenCFD Limited, producer and distributor of the OpenFOAM software via www.openfoam.com and owner of the OPENFOAM® and OpenCFD® trade marks.
  • blueCAPE Lda is a contributor to the OpenFOAM Foundation, but the majority of the specific modifications needed in the source code for running OpenFOAM natively on Windows, will not be accepted in the official releases of OpenFOAM by the OpenFOAM Foundation, mostly due to the maintenance overhead associated to supporting closed-source operating systems.

Addendum:
  1. We are very aware that we are already in the year 2021, given that in our numbering convention the version blueCFD-Core 2021 is reserved for OpenFOAM 9, which is estimated to be released sometime around June/July 2021.
  2. We will be publishing more information on how to sponsor the development of blueCFD-Core in the near future, in order to allow us to speed up developments and not be so far behind OpenFOAM Foundation's releases.

Dear Bruno,

It's nice hearing from you again and knowing that the development of BlueCFD continues.
I tried this new version and it worked perfectly on my computer, like all the previous versions.
I consider BlueCFD the best option for using OpenFOAM on Windows.

Thank you!

Thanks Bruno for this excellent release.
Very easy installation, I even compiled the build of cfMesh previously prepared for blueCFD Core 2017, but it doesn't seem to work properly. The mesh generation never converges, taking even one day before a Ctrl+C, where the same mesh is generated in few minutes with my previous installation of blueCFD Core 2017. I will keep using and switching between both installations (2020 and 2017).
Thank again for all.

Dear Bruno,

Thanks for your continued work on BlueCFD-core.

A question on the 2020 release - does it work with your port of swak4foam?

Thanks,
Kate
