Hi!

I started using ubuntu and OpenFOAM very recently. I have installed ubuntu 12.04 LTS and installed OpenFOAM 2.2.2 and Paraview 3.12.0 yesterday. I installed using the wikiFoam instructions. Everything went smoothly and I didn't have any error messages. I am trying to teach myself how to use the program by following the user guide posted on openfoam's website. I am just trying to run the basic tutorials without editing anything to get the hang of things.

I got to the cavity flow problem and built my mesh using
>> blockMesh
Then I viewed my mesh in Paraview (by typing paraFoam into the terminal) and everything worked perfectly. I then changed the "edit view" settings as suggested in the user guide, then closed paraview and typed into terminal
>> icoFoam
It ran without errors, but when I tried to view it in paraview by typing in
>> paraFoam
Paraview opened, but with this error message:

QVariantMap DBusMenuExporterDBus::getProperties(int, const QStringList&) const: Condition failed: action
QVariantMap DBusMenuExporterDBus::getProperties(int, const QStringList&) const: Condition failed: action

Then I deleted my results obtained by running icoFoam in hopes of having paraview open normally again. Every time I have tried opening paraview by typing paraFoam I keep getting the same error message.

Does anyone have any advice?

Hi!

Sorry for wasting your time. It seems the error was no error at all. It still opens and works perfectly and loads the results. If possible could you please tell me what the error means, though?

Greetings Chris and welcome to the forum!

Do you mean that you followed the instructions from this link: http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/In...u#Ubuntu_12.04

Or the ones provided here: http://www.openfoam.org/download/ubuntu.php

As for your latest question about this:

That's one of those annoying issues related to Ubuntu and/or Qt. This can happen sometimes and usually building ParaView from source code fixes the problem.
In theory, you can ignore these error messages and proceed to using ParaView without any concerns.

I did a quick search online and found this thread, which deals with the same issue: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...4-10-10-a.html

Best regards,
Bruno

Hi Bruno!

Thank you for your prompt reply. I installed using the first link: http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/In...u#Ubuntu_12.04

I did in fact ingnore the messages and everything seemed to work perfectly. Thanks for the link to the other thread. I will give it a read through.

Regards,
Chris
