Can't connect to X server

when i try to run the cavity tutorial simulation, i get this error
bash-4.1$ paraFoam & [1] 413 bash-4.1$ Created temporary 'cavity.OpenFOAM' paraview: cannot connect to X server i very new to this im not sure what to do any help will be much appreciated |

Are you running this locally on a Linux machine, in an x-terminal, or over some kind of remote connection?
Can you run other graphical programs, like gedit ? |
