Dear Foamers

I need to obtain information about the particles going through a polygon inside the domain. The information includes parcel mass, diameter and velocity. I have used the cloud function object "patchPostProcessing", but it works for patches, and as far as I know they can only be located in the boundaries of the domain. There is another function object that does something similar. It is called "particleCollector" but only stores the mass and flow rate of the particles through an internal polygon.

I have thought about the following possible solutions:

- Creating internal patches. I am not sure if this is possible in OpenFOAM (I don't think createWaffles will work) and using the patchPostProcessing F-O. The issue with this alternative is that the patches would need to be created from internal vertex, hence the measuring positions would not be as flexible as a polygon.
- Modifying the particleCollector function to incorporate other properties of the lagrangian phase. This might work but it would take me a long time since I am not an expert programmer.
- Obtaining the vtk particle tracks and devise a way in paraview to do this.
- Writing an script to read the lagrangian data stored by the simulation, interpolate the tracks through a surface and determine if the particles cross it or not. I think it is completely possible but will take me a very long time (and I don't have much at the moment).

Have you got any suggestions or different alternatives to do this?

Well, I was finally able to do it through modification of the particleCollector function object. It now writes the number of particles impacting the polygon and their velocity.
