Sample at a single point?

Apologies for what seems a trivial question, but how can I sample at a SINGLE POINT? I've managed to sample across lines, but I just want to sample at a single coordinate, (x,y,z), and have tried using 'cloud' and other things but can't get it to work!

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

try probeLocations utility. Though all the values at different time steps will be in a single file.

Hi,

Thanks this looks like what I'm after - is this something that I need to set up before running the simulation (there seems to be a lot of talk about it being related to the controlDict when I googled it), or something I can use AFTERWARDS like the rest of the sampleDict utilities?

Thanks,
Olie

Hi,

if you'd like to do run-time probing, you put description of the probes into controlDict, if you'd like to do probing after simulation, you create probesDict file (see example in $FOAM_APP/utilities/postProcessing/sampling/probeLocations), put it in the system folder and run probeLocations.

Oh brilliant, thanks.
