Hello

I have a box with unstructured mesh. I would like to calculate area weighted average of normal temperature gradient on a surface after simulation/

Is there any postporcessing tool after runtime to
1. create a face along which I want to do calculation (i.e any cross section my domain)
2. calculate normal temperature gradient on that surface
3.carry out area averaging


These have been tried
FoamCalcEx support gradT calculation but not snGradT
Unable to create a surface after runtime to calculate gradients

Hello Manu,

Did you solve your problem yet?

I think you can do what you want by using sampled surfaces maybe.

Check out this thread that i created, its kind of a little tutorial on how to make sampled surfaces.

So, if i were you, i would try to created these sampled surfaces on the places that you want, and then instead of performing and area integral to find the mass flow rate (Like in the thread example i gave you the link for), you would have to create a functions to calculate the properties that you want.

But remember that if you do it like this, you will have to run your simulation again, and results will be on a dict named postProcess after the simulation is done.

Dear Igor

Thanks for the link. Did you try to integrate it with swak4foam ..specifically funkydoCalc so that you could do it after run time (without running it again).

Is it possible to do so?

Hello Manu,

No i have never used swak4foam.

There is probably a way to do it after you have run the simulation, but i don't really know how. Maybe it is possible to do it after, even with sampled surfaces, but i have never looked for something like that.
