Hi, dear foamers! I'm new to OpenFOAM.

One of the beginning difficulties I met lies on the post-processing using paraView, while I'm much more familiar with CFD-post. Thus, in this slide I'd like to summary the method of post-process a ".foam" file in CFD-post. I will be very happy if it can help some new foamers like me.

The discussions in "FoamDataToFluent" really helps a lot, and I'd like to summary the steps more clearly.

1)
edit system/controlDict
startFrom latestTime;

2)
build file system/foamDataFluentDict
one of the foamDataFluentDict examples can be found in "tutorials/incompressible/icoFoam/elbow/system/foamDataToFluentDict"

3)
run foamMeshToFluent

4)
run foamDataToFluent

Then, a "fluentInterface" folder is built in your test folder

5)
go to software Fluent (in windows for me)

read ".msh" file in "fluentInterface" folder
then, read the last step ".dat" file in "fluentInterface" folder

6)
write case&data in Fluent

then the ".cas" file can be read in CFD-post


But, I'm confused that the test0.dat and test100.dat show totally the same result in CFD-post, I'm not sure if it is right and the reason of the similarity (0 and 100 are the time step).
Any suggestion&quick answer is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I am new to openfoam as well and wish to view my results in CFD-post.

I followed exactly the procedure described above, but when I load the .dat file in post, only one timestep is loaded in the timestep selector.

Do I need to open each timestep in fluent individually and save it again as a .dat ?

Hi YCarv! I'm sorry to inform you that I only tried the steady simulation before. As for the unsteady simulations, you may have a try.

Moreover, I think it is a better choice for one to study paraView if possible. Because some people said the simulation with heat transfer may meet unexpected problem in changing to CFD-POST (for more information you can search in CFD-Online, I saw it before). And the transform of OpenFAOM result to Fluent result may cost some time if one have lots of time step results.
