python scripting in paraFoam

I was able to compile paraview3.3-cvs with python support on ubuntu 9.04 with OF-1.5-dev after a bit of work. I am trying to find a good source that covers the basics of scripting in the python shell or the python script filters. I have found the kitware wiki, but its not good enough.

I am trying to get some information on a mesh that is imported with paraFoam. basically I want to create a cylinder surface with CylinderSource() and then find the area of the surface that the cylinder slice and mesh have in common. Im able to create the cylinders, but not together with the mesh that I've imported...they pop up as a separate screen. thoughts?
