Tecplot 360 2011 R2 preview with OpenFOAM data loader available for evaluation
 

Tecplot, Inc. is developing an OpenFOAM© data loader for the next release of Tecplot 360, and has made a beta version available for evaluation and testing at: http://download.tecplot.com/360/beta/ .

Please note that you will need a Tecplot 360 2011 license key to run the beta version. If you already have a 2011 key, simply copy the license file into the install directory, or point to the network license manager, to the activate the software.

If you do not have a 360 2011 key, send e-mail to marketing@tecplot.com with “OpenFOAM loader evaluation” in the subject line and your contact information in the body, and we will send you an evaluation key

As an FYI, the beta will install in a new directory so you can run both the released version of Tecplot 360 2011 R1 and R2 beta on your machine without any conflicts.

plz give me the information about uploading the .plt file of openfoam in to tecplot

example like i run cavity tutorial of openfoam then after completing paraview process i close the peraview then after i run the command foamToTecplot360

then it gave me some files which converted in to .plt format

now i install tecplot in windows 7 n when i run this .plt file in tecplot then it gave me some error like
the grid file must be specified before any solution file that depend on it.

so how can i plot my result in tecplot?
plz help me

This thread is in regards to our new Tecplot 360 data loader for OpenFOAM data loader, and I will attempt to explain the difference.
The data loader reads the OpenFOAM results in the native output from OpenFOAM, so the conversion step (foamToTecplot360) is not necessary. This data loader runs inside the Tecplot 360 software program.
The data converter (foamToTecplot360) is a separate application that is run outside of Tecplot 360, and it creates the native Tecplot format which has the .plt extension.
One would read a native .plt file into Tecplot via File>>Load Data Files>>Tecplot Data Loader. One would read the native OpenFOAM files via File>>Load Data Files>>OpenFOAM Loader.
I believe your specific problem may be the order in that you are trying to load your OpenFOAM results in .plt form. One first must load the grid file, and then follow with the solution files.

Nice job, I finally got the chance to work with the native OF loader this weekend and it is amazing how much time can be re-cooped when you don't need to deal with translators and intermediate files.

Excellent job with the native Tecplot OpenFOAM reader. I downloaded the beta, installed, and was up and running in less than 5 minutes. I tested a serial, unsteady case and that worked great. I also tried a decomposed (parallel) case, where the OpenFOAM data was still in its decomposed state, and that worked great too.

This process definitely saves time and disk space.

Nice job integrating the native OpenFOAM reader into Tecplot! I was able to view the results from a decomposed OpenFOAM case with just a click of a button. Saves a lot of time and disk space. If not for the OpenFOAM reader in Tecplot, I should have reconstructed the processor files, then use foamToTecplot360 to convert the results into .plt files and then use Tecplot. :(
Its quick now. Cant ask for more! Keep up the good work!

there's no need to reconstruct a case in order to view it: just type "paraFoam -touch", then rename the file created as *.FOAM and use paraview to open it normally (regular paraview, not through paraFoam script), you should choose OpenFOAM reader (lying in the middle of all). You can now choose between viewing the decomposed or the reconstructed case.

I still have to check out this one, but paraview is pretty decent for most of the things.

Thanks for the information on paraview. I have been using Tecplot for the past decade, so i am very used to it. Before this Beta release, Tecplot did not have the capability to read files without reconstructing and using foamToTecplot360 utility. With the new Beta release, we don not have to do that. So, I am excited. I am definitely not comparing Tecplot to Paraview! I am just telling that the new capability is cool.

Just a note to let you know that we are aware that the new Tecplot 360 OpenFOAM data loader does not handle multi-region data sets nicely. We will be fixing this issue, and I will post a link to the update when it is available.

As an fyi though – multi-processor OF data is supported by the new Tecplot 360 data loader.

I was very happy to read that Tecplot 360 now offers a native Openfoam loader. I tried it and the first thought I had in mind was: it is pretty slow. My testcase has about 200000 grid points and many time directories. Due to the fact that the foam loader loads all time directories (there is not option to specifiy just one) it slows down rapidly. You should add a option to load just one time directory. Normally one needs only the last one, but some checkpoints during the run, to allow e.g. for a restart in case of error or on high performance computers. And a problem which also exists for the converter foamToTecplot360: The output for probes during runtime could not be loaded into tecplot.
But again, it very nice to have a native foam loader. It simplifies the working alot.

It would be great if the Tecplot reader could handle geometry data in binary format (I get a SYS_ERROR_FORMAT message). After using foamFormatConvert to write the geometry data in constant/polyMesh in ascii format, the Tecplot reader works as expected. foamToTecplot360 works without any issues on the binary files.

Velocity at Wall not zero
 

Hey all,

I got a question about postprocessing my data from OpenFOAM in Tecplot.
For example if I load the data of the cavity case in Tecplot I observe wall velocities to be non-zero which have to be zero.
My question is if this is a general problem of OpenFoam because it uses
co-located meshes and saves all cell data in one point in the center of the cell,
or if this is a problem of Tecplot getting any data wrong?
Is there any way to get the velocity at the wall to zero in tecplot?

Tecplot 360 2012R1 OF Native Loader

I am using OF 2.1.1 and Tecplot 360 2012R1.

I am somewhat confused on how to use the Tecplot native loader.

I ran the damBreakFine tutorial (http://www.openfoam.org/docs/user/da...x7-610002.3.11) and trying to load the results.

The loader looks for a controlDict but does not read it correctly when I am trying to load it:

I have tried several different files (grid files or solution files) but they would not load

How do I correctly load OF results with the Tecplot native loader?

Is there something wrong with my OF openMPI installation (reconstructPar; did not get any error messages when executing reconstructPar) and does that produce corrupted files?

You have to run blockMesh (in your case directory just type blockMesh and hit Enter) first. Tecplot is complaining about a missing point file, which means there exists no mesh description.

I've the same problem as anfho descriped. But even if I do the Allrun sript and so the blockMesh again and try to load the controlDict with the tecplot360 reader, I get allways the error message posted by anfho.

I hope you can help me.
