Boundary file strugglings

Hi all,

I am fairly new to OpenFOAM and this post wouldn't be here if I had no strullings with OpenFOAM. I did most of the tutorials and now the time is there to put in my own model - a small airplane - and see what happens. Because I would like to use 'simple' .stp/.stl models of the airplane, I want to use snappyHexMesh to mesh the control volume around the airplane, as is done in the motorBike tutorial.

However... in what way do I have to adapt the boundary file? I keep struggling with defining the right patches. Is there any guide to how to define them (besides the user guide of OpenFOAM)? I tried to follow the procedure of the motorBike file with a simple box, but even this failed :S.

As I spent already more than a fulltime week on this, I really hope someone can help me out! :-)

Thanks,
Liezl

Hey there

I remember I had found this very useful when I was learning sHM.
You can also search this forum, I am sure you will find LOTS of stuff.

Yes, I found that tutorial too. However, it does not treat the boundary file...

The boundary file should be generated in the process.
I guess you mean that all boundary faces are included in the defaultFaces or something and "how can someone separate between each patch?"

In this case, search for autoPatch and createPatch.
