Mesh refinement with the help of a value

Hello,
I want to refine a shock wave in super sonic flow. So I setup a case file, it running well. I coded a postprocess tool, which writes a value of the shockwave shockwave = (1-vorticity/vorticity_max)* mag(grad(Ma))/max(mag(grad(Ma))) so this value is anywhere between zero and one. You can determinate the shock wave with the help of the gradient of mach number. With the help of vorticity you can eliminate the high values in boundary layer (because there you have also high gradients of mach number but no shock wave). Now comes the question: After the running of the case I want to refine the mesh where the value of shockwave - let's say - between 0.15 and 1. Are there standart tool, which will write you a cellset file for refineMesh with the help of this shockwave value? Thank you for help, Nucat )) |

You can use topoSet to generate a cellSet, that suffices the criterion you specify. Then you use refineHexMesh or refineMesh (I'm currently unsure of which is the one to go with) and use the cellSet for refinement.
Alternatively you could use a solver with dynamic mesh capabilities and refine dynamically at run time.

I am also interested in this area, but with improved vorticity visualization around a pitching airfoil. Can anyone provide more insight in this regard please?
