Beginning with LES simulations

Hi everyone,

I need to do my first computations with LES in OpenFOAM. I have read something about a solver called channelFoam, which looks suitable for what I want to do, but in my OF versions (2.2 and 2.3) I am not able to find it!

So I have a few questions:

1. Anybody could give me a reference where I can look carefully about the theoretical of LES?

2. I want to simulate a bifurcated flow (with two inlets and an outlet). The wall will heat the flow in my domain, so heat transfer capabilities are needed. Which solver do you suggest? I guess there are several choices to do this (pimpleFoam, rhoPimpleFoam...with LES option activated). My Mach number is too low, so I guess compressibility effects are negligible...

3. Where can I find some guidelines for mesh generation in this kind of simulations? I am not sure, but I suppose depending on my Reynolds number I should deal with boundary layer issues. How do I know where to place my first grid point? And what about y+? I am using snappyHexMesh for mesh generation.

Thanks in advance. Any references and opinions are welcome.

Best,

CRI
