Hello,

I am running OpenFOAM 2.3.1 in an Ubuntu Linux operating system.

I have run a simulation in simpleFoam and would like to run it several more times in a very similar way. It took approx. 20,000 iterations to converge, so I would like to set up a smart initial field to get a more quickly converging solution in the next runs. I was told that mapFields is a good utility to do this.

However, I am new to OpenFOAM and Linux/programming, so I don't understand what I have to type to get the mapping to be applied from my source directory (which I am guessing would be the "time" directory in my converged solution with which I want to set up the new initial field in my next runs) to the target directory (which would be the "0" time step of the next run??).

I saw this line: mapFields*<source*dir>*-consistent

But can someone really spell this out to me with an example, like type the source and target directory names and everything? I just want to know exactly what I have to write in the Ubuntu terminal to make the transfer successful.

Also, is there anything else to do for setting up the problem in the 0 directory, controlDict, etc. to make it start from the new initial field and not from the original given boundary conditions?

Thank you very much for your assistance!

Thank you Wouter,

So from reading, I understand that the actual command line is executed from within the target directory, and the command includes a reference to the source directory. Is this right?

Thank you,
Sofy
