Can OpenFOAM currently import CAD geometry?

Hello everyone,

I'm new here to CFD Online and have a quick question about OpenFOAM. I'm considering using OpenFOAM for CFD but I saw that they have this new Visual CFD product which they say allows you to import and prepare CAD models.

So my question is, can OpenFOAM by itself import already prepared CAD models (for eg. in IGES format) for analysis? or does the model have to made in OpenFOAM? or is the Visual CFD needed.

The geometry I intend to import is of a wind turbine so it is somewhat complex.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Davitt

Hi David, OpenFOAM supports import of CAD geometry via STL with the meshing tool snappyHexMesh. Other than that, you can use a wide range of commerical meshing tools, such as Pointwise, ANSA or ICEM-CFD.
