Hes guys!
I'm new at this Forum and I am also new at using OpenFOAM. I went through the tutorials and the OpenFOAM user guide and I took a look at the Plane2D tut for chtMultiRegionSimpleFoam. First I just want to know, what you think is the best solution to solve my problem: I have a nozzle (3D cylinder-like with a hole in the middle, Mesh is no problem) in an engine and I want to determine the temperature on the inside of the nozzle with a given temperature at a certain point outside it, that i can measure (and that I measured allready). I don want to have a flow around respectively in the nozzle, I just want to determine the temperature at the inner wall!
What solver would you guys prefer for this case? chtMulitRegionFoam? ~SimpleFoam? or an entirely different one?

Greetings

If i understand correctly you have a nozzle, with a certain thickness, and you want to measure the temperature on the side opposite to the flow explicitly?

If so, and if this is really necessary I'd say a CHTMultiRegion Problem, perhaps a 2d Wedge case simplification with 3 different regions, is the best choice.

However, If the flow outside the nozzle is not relevant why not do a a simple case with just the inside ( using SimpleFoam ) and calculating the outside temperature manually after the simulation is done? It's way simpler, faster and you will probably get the same results.

Alternatively, if the flow outside the nozzle is relevant but simple (say, a textbook scenario of forced convection by air) you could calculate the heat transfer coefficient in that wall and force it as a boundary condition.

I hope this gives you some options to look for,

Good luck!

Yes, that is exactly what I want to do. The pressure inside the nozzle is ~5000Pa and outside is nearly vaccum with ~10Pa.
Thank you for your reply, I will take a closer look!
