LES modelling of walls

Hi,

I have been reading for some time about LES modelling in openFoam but there are still some things unclear.

1) Use of delta cubeRootVol. There are vanDriestCoeffs specified in the tutorial cases. But if I understand it correct, using cubeRootVol by an algebraic (Smagorinsky) or one equition LES model is not damping close to the wall. Why are those coefficient specified?

2) cubeRootVol is good for dynamic LES modelles since the coefficients are calculated and depending on the flow (https://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/op...correctly.html).

3) For y+ <1, cubeRootVol can be used since the wall sub layer is calculated.

4) For y+>1, vanDriest delta should be used to damp turbulent viscosity close to the wall if one equition model or Smagorinsky model is used.

Is my understanding correct or wrong?
