DES SIMULATIONS. Is possible to use SimpleFoam?

Hello to everyone,

I am testing different turbulence models in turbine sitting. Once I have made a test of the simpleFoam RANS models I want to take a step further and try DES simulations.

I don't know if it is possible to apply the steady state solver simpleFoam, since DES simulations behave partially as a LES simulation.

Any information about this kind of simulations will be appreciated.

Also any advice about the boundaries and parameters for these kind of models will be really helpful.

A step further is LES.

simple is a s steady state solver. It has iterations, but no real time steps. Therefore it cannot be used for DES.

I dob't believe that this sentence is correct in some way. LES uses a model to cover the smaller eddies. DES does not use turbulence models, but trust in the solution of the Navier Stoke equations by using an adequate fine temporal and spatial discretisation.

If you really want to perform DES: The example in OF uses the Fourier method which works only for very simple geometries. You may use the LES solvers instead, with the accurate mesh and the tiny time step needed. AND: Don't uses walls, which in effect cause the use of wall functions. You don't need wall functions with DES. Use the simple patch instead for all boundaries.
