Hello Foamers,

I'm currently simulating a volute of an axial compressor using OpenFOAM. The boundary conditions involve a mass flow inlet and pressure outlet, with the flow being compressible air.

At the inlet, the flow does not enter normally; instead, it enters the volute at a 45° angle (both radial and tangential). I'm attempting to validate OpenFOAM results against Fluent.

So far, I've explored several inlet boundary conditions:

flowRateInletVelocity: Specifies flow normal to the boundary.

swirlFlowRateInletVelocity: Seems promising, but I'm unsure how to precisely define the inlet angle.

cylindricalInletVelocity: Found it unstable as mass flow rate depends on given velocity components.

swirlInletVelocity: Similar to cylindricalInletVelocity.

I conducted a test simulation using swirlFlowRateInletVelocity, and the results matched those from Fluent. My concern now is understanding how the solver calculates the flow angle based on axis, origin, and RPM.

Any insights or advice on defining the inlet angle correctly would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Nagaraj
