Hello everybody,

I would like to have the opinion of somebody with some experience on FSI in OpenFOAM. Lately I have been interested in FSI simulation for a reed valve (two dimensional), that is a rectangular console that would close against a wall.

I inspired myself from the flappingConsoleSmall tutorial case, so I am trying to add a wall acting as a rigid obstacle both to the fluid and the console. Unfortunately, a closing valve would split my fluid domain in two and require remeshing or cell removal, and I have never seen these methods applied to a FSI case until now. Has somebody here ever tried something like this?

Anyway, my backup plan consists in letting a small gap between the wall and the console, but by doing so my console becomes unconstrained, and I don't want it to bend in the wrong direction. I am now using the solid solver of the HronTurekFsi tutorial, and I thought that I could constrain my console's motion. Would you have any advice on how to do this?

Finally, because my valve and wall are very close, any displacement of the valve induces a large skewness of gap cells... Would it be possible to use a sliding interface to avoid this?

Any advice is welcome, thanks for your help!

Florian
