Adding a custom turbulence model in OpenFOAM 3.0
Hi Everyone
We tried to update our turbulences models from OpenFOAM 2.4.0 to OpenFOAM 3.0.1 It seems that with the new implementation of turbulence models in OpenFOAM 3.0, the old trick of copying a kEps into the run directory and compiling the modified version inside the FOAM_USER_LIBBIN is not working anymore. I searched into the forum and I mostly saw that people managed to add a new turbulence model using the git version or the dev version, recompiling the whole turbulence library. I particularly looked at the PANS model developed by Helio (thank you very much for that by the way, PANS is very promising). Helio emphasizes on the findroot library, but I can’t find it on the 3.01 version. My question is : is anybody succeeded in adding a new turbulence model in a standard Ubuntu installation of OpenFoam 3.0.1? It’s quite frustrating as it was so easy to implement a new turbulence model in the previous version of OF.. Thant ahead for any suggestion or comment about that Best regards Sylvain |

Same thing here, I am trying to implement the new k-v2-omega transitional model developed by Lopez and Walters recently ("Prediction of transitional and fully turbulent flow using an alternative to the laminar kinetic energy approach") which is better than the k-kl-omega, but I do not know how to do it in opemfoam... please if you figure it out, post the solution here

Hello,
This issue was discussed here few time. Also I wrote a blog post to summarize this problem ``How to add a turbulence model in OpenFOAM-3.0.0`` Bw, Hassan |
Many thanks Hassan for your message!!
I couldn't find any clear answer about this subject and your blog post was perfect. Not only it gave me the answer, but it was also explaining very well why it was actually working (which is far more important). It was very instructive as I did the very two mistakes your were pointing out in your explanation. Many thanks again for your very valuable contribution. Best regards Sylvain |
