hello everybody
i wonder whether it is possible to run OF codes on a generic compiler (not through the TERMINAL determined by the official releases)?
for example can i run the Cavity tutorial codes on CodeBlocks C++ compiler?
i think if OF is a real open source code it must be possible!
thanks in advance.

Netbeans, Eclipse and QtCreator have been used by some people some time ago.

An example (QtCreator):

I haven't used an IDE myself and whether you can use a specific IDE has nothing to do with OpenFOAM being an open source software. Also, codeblocks isn't a compiler it's an IDE that can be used with different compilers - you'll probably use the same compiler through the IDE/codeblocks which you would use on the command line/in the terminal.

Whether codeblocks can be used or not depends on whether it supports OpenFOAM "programing conventions" i.e. whether it can be configured (setup) to compile OpenFOAM applications or libraries which includes e.g. the use of wmake and wclean or defining the paths to relevant header files to enable autocomplete etc.

I'd suggest to use the configuration description of one of the IDEs used by others as a checklist and try the same setup in codeblocks step-by-step.
