git workflow for OpenFOAM(-extend)

Default git workflow for OpenFOAM(-extend)

As you may know, OF-extend accepts user contributions through Git, with Hrv acting as the integrator. This has been great over the past year or so for bringing in new user contributions, but there are practical aspects that are still being worked out to make the system work well and take some of the burden off of Hrv.

Hrv had asked me some related Git workflow questions, I had proposed some solutions, and Henrik weighed in. Then we decided the conversation should have been held here. So attached is Henrik's e-mail response to my e-mail to Hrv ... If you can follow that, and if you can weigh in with opinions on some ways to improve the workflow, we three would be grateful.

For more background, you may want to review the HowToContribute file in OpenFOAM-1.6-ext (you'll need a fairly recent copy of the repository) to see how things are supposed to work, and then have a look at the Git repository to see the way it is actually working now.
