Dear foamers,
I'm trying to simulate a laminar flow (water) in a cylindrical shape using sonicLiquidFoam, the main problem is that the velocity profile is very different from what Hagen-Poiseuille expected. How can I correct this?
Comparing the results with rhoPimpleFoam, where the velocity profiles are correct, what is the main difference in the solver, and why this is happening?
Thanks in advance!!

Hi Didu

sonicLiquidFoam is a "[t]ransient solver for trans-sonic/supersonic, laminar flow of a compressible liquid" (source: OpenFOAM v6 User Guide: 3.5 Standard solvers).
Is your flow trans-sonic/supersonic?

Note: In the Foundation version sonicFoam, sonicDyMFoam, sonicLiquidFoam were merged into rhoPimpleFoam [ commit 3341f9 ].

Kind regards
Krapf

Hi Krapf,

Thank you for your response.

The flow that I'm dealing is not trans-sonic or supersonic.
It is a flow in a pipe with very low velocities, the Reynolds numbers range from 1 to 400 (laminar).
The main issue is that sonicLiquidFoam uses the barotropic relationship (I believe that it the only one), considering the bulk modulus (K) which is ideal to setup the pressure wave celerity, in my case (pipes).
Kind regards,
Didu

Maybe it's possible to use the barotropic relationship in rhoPimpleFoam (Foundation version 7 or 8) without setting "transonic yes;" in the PIMPLE sub-dictionary of fvSolution?

Thanks for your answer, I'm sure this is the solution, did anyone try to add the barotropic relationship to the rhoPimpleFoam solver?
