Hi Foamers,

I am working in a 2D model of a FSI problem considering a rigid body suspended from a spring. The idea is that the body will experiment VIV.

I would like to know what is openFoam doing when it solves this problem (I am using pimpleDyMFoam).

I mean, is it a weakly coupled interaction case? The fluid problem is solved based in the ALE formulation? How does openFoam solve the vibration problem?

I would appreciate of you letting me know where I can find this information.

Thank you

Hi NewOrleans,

I'm experiencing the same difficulties as you. Have you find these informations in the meantime? If not, is there anyone who can help us?

Thanks.

Correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I know the pimpleDyMFoam solver is not a FSI solver. Instead, it is just the pimpleFoam solver allowing additional dynamic mesh.
Or how did you set up your case to make FSI possible?

Hi all,

I was wondering if some you have found new info on this material in the mean time? I also found this similar post: FSI with pimpleDyMFoam: Loosely or Closely coupled?

I am very eager to understand the coupling of the pimpleDyMFoam, let me know if you have some info

Dear Foamers,

I am a new foamer, but I recently sucess to use solideBodyMotion solver. As far as I understand your question, you will find some explanations in Bloerb's answer following this link.
Flow induced 3D motion OpenFoam

I hope it will help.
