I am trying to simulate jet in a different density medium, which gets vaporized once it reaches the vaporization temperature/pressure. Is interPhaseChangeFoam correct solver to deal with this kind of problem???

Please help

Thanks Nima, I was wondering whether interMixingFoam will be suitable or not as it deal with three fluids, two of which are miscible. But I am not sure whether it will take into account the vaporization of the jet in a different density medium.DO you have any idea??

as much as i know, it does not consider vaporization

But do you think, that interPhaseChangeFoam takes into account three fluids (water, air and vapour)?? and If i incorporate temperature field into interMixingFoam, can it solve the problem or can I add another phase in interPhaseChange Foam. I think the later one is not possible but do you think incorporating temperature will solve the problem for the former (interMixing Foam)??

Vishal,

If you have a look in interPhaseChangeFoam, you see phaseChangeTwoPhaseMixtures, so it's only two phases. If you want a third phase you can add it yourself. I did it some time ago to take into account the non-condensable gas in a cavitating flow, in the end it was not very successful due to the incompressible methodology.

Cheers,

Which one is easier? 1) adding phase change and temperature model to interMixingFoam or 2) adding a third phase to interPhaseChange Foam???

Any idea, any one ...please reply!!

hello,

You should not add a third phase in interPhaseChange to take into account vapour, because this is a VOF solver (thus non miscible phase).
=> you will have non miscible vapor and air.

but you may try to add a transport scalar to the 2nd phase (air) to take into account vapor. However your scalar should not diffuse inside water, so this will not be easy.
For this, take a look at this:
