Hi,

Can any suggest a solution for this error.
I am trying to simulate a flow around a ship and my mesh is symmetric.
The latest version OF 2.3.0 which has been updated for ship hydrodynamics is giving me this error when i try to do setFields. I did not encounter this issue in the previous versions.

Symmetry plane 'SYM' is not planar.
At local face at (0.594458857082 1.1980965844e-09 -0.938176870404) the normal (2.14036769809e-07 -1 2.06496503342e-07) differs from the average normal (-7.90999860659e-11 -1 8.52793799709e-11) by 8.84511990759e-14
Either split the patch into planar parts or use the symmetry patch type

EDIT: I changed the BC from "symmetryPlane" to simply "symmetry" and it worked. However, I do not find documentation regarding the difference between the two BC's.

Same problem here, setting the boundary to symmetry solves the issue, but I can't find documentation either.

They have mentioned this in the release notes for version 2.3. However, I have the same problems. I have set of patches in the same plane which I want to make a symmetry plane but I cannot use the symmetryPlane condition. Instead I have to use "symmetry" condition. I do not understand since my plane is basically perpendicular to Z axis (z = constant) and all the points have the same Z coordinate.

I am also a bit new to OpenFOAM so it would be good if anyone with more experience can weigh in on it.
