Pressure drop over packed bed is too high

Hi,

With the solver "twoPhaseEulerFoam" of OF version 2.3.x the pressure drop over a packed bed (inflow velocity < min. fluidization velocity) is too high. With the solver "compressibleTwoPhaseEulerFoam" of OF version 2.2.x the pressure drop was predicted correctly for inflow velocities below the min. fluidization velocity.

Does anyone has an idea why?

Thank you.

Hello, I also acknowledge that twoPhaseEulerFoam 2.3.x predicts the different results with compressibleTwoPhaseEulerFoam.

Did u solve this problem? And is it a big difference?

Best,

Hello,

Same problem here. It seems the minimum fluidization velocity is calculated quite well (at least when using my settings and models), so the bending point of the delta pressure vs. velocity plots are correct, but the pressure drop itself does very strange things.

It seems that the pressure drop at 0 m/s velocity is also not 0.... and the pressure drop above minimum fluidization velocity is slowly decreasing instead of stable, which suggests there is some change in the solids phase mass.

I have included a picture of the OpenFOAM results, versus experimental values.

Kind regards,
Ramon
