Hi there CFD community! I need your help and advice!
As part of my ending Master thesis I would need to make a CFD simulation of some transient and accidents scenario in a nuclear reactor. This has already being successfully made in openFOAM though I do not have access to such codes.
The attached pic is of that simulation. As you can see the geometry is not that complex, and a 2D simulation would be enough.
The main thing however is that there is an intense heat generation in the fluid. The source term of this heat generation can easily be calculated separately but it does depend of the flow field. Therefore coupling is needed to solve this problem. I also need to transport 5 scalar quantities. There is a heat sink and a DeltaP impose by a pump in the shorter channel. The flow is turubulent, Re=10^6, only 1 phase, fix geometry, adiabatic wall condition.
The thing is that I have about, let's say, 5 months to do this. And I do not count with much support with OPENfoam or any CFD tool for that matter.
Is it possible? Or is it just too hard?
I have some level of background in linux, and programming, but is not extent, and I'm maybe too costume to friendly programming frames such as Matlab.
I would love to learn an open source CFD tool, and I probably will need to learn it anyway in my phD. But I cannot, by all means, bury myself in a complicated difficult to handle not going anywhere OPENfoam script mess...
What would be your advice? Is it doable?

The other way to tackle this problem is through a boring 1D discretization, velocity imposed, simulation. I have already program this for other scenarios and worked fine and would probably work reasonably well here also, but if I can learn and use a strong CFD tool and then couple it with a, let's say Matlab script or something like that. Well, that's another level...

Well THX in advance, and sorry for the newbie-long post!

PD: Another small question! Does it run in a standard i5? I remember when I program the SIMPLE algorithm ( which was by all means not a trivial task), in Matlab, and the simulation had mayor memory issues when I slowly tried to increase the grid size...
