Hello everyone,

Please see the attached image. I have an STL file of a porous material which has pores connected to an air flow channel. I have already constructed the domain. Now it is time for the simulation.

In each simulation, I want to specify a particular free water level inside the porous material (in other words, a particular height at which Relative Humidity = 100%). In the simulation, I plan to specify this level as the height from which there is a constant water vapor flux i.e. phase change is not actually simulated. My aim is to quantify the rate at which vapor exits from the material. By varying the heights of the RH = 100% level right from the surface (as shown in the first case, and which is equivalent to evaporation from a flat plate) to levels below the surface (as shown in the subsequent two cases), I can understand how good or bad will be the approximation of this material as a flat plate when it comes to studying drying from this material.

To sum up, I want to study the convection of water vapor (which is given as a boundary condition flux, rather than as a result of phase change) by air flow. Can anyone suggest which solver will be the best for my case, with or without any modifications? Will twoPhaseEulerFoam be good? Thank you for your time.

Hello sreeyuth,

I am wondering if you have been able to solve this. I am interested in what boundary condition you are using at the pore channel interface.

Cheers,
Graeme

Hi Graeme,

I have decided to use scalarTransportFoam for my simulations, after adding turbulent dispersion to it. I give the diffusivity of water vapor in air, this way I can simulate water vapor transport as a passive scalar.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Cheers,
Sreeyuth.
