Laser Melting/Drilling

Dear Fellows,
I am very new to the OpenFOAM software. I have done my models on COMSOL but I have to run some CFD simulations also. I heard that OpenFOAM is a powerful silumator for CFD problems. I would be very happy if anyone can help me to start building my model or give me some hints/clues how and where I should I start. The summary of my problem is below:
Part 1) I have a metallic disc which is melted partially by laser and I am interested in melt behaviour.
Part 2) During melting the sample, some external forces are being applied to the disc and cause molten material removal.

I really appreciate any kind of help.

Thanks,

There are some topics around melting simulations in openfoam, although your simulations are much difficult that what has been implemented. Search for melting openfoam in this forum to gather some information

Thank you. I already checked some threads ni the forum (not in details), and I was not able to follow their models. Some models are suggested for melting, but they do not work in my openfoam version (I guess).

Most of the models are based in the Voller enthalpy porosity method which can give reasonable gut results, you could also add radiation to this method whitout big problems. There are implementations for of210 and of 230 so you shouldnt have problems running the solvers you hace search y the melting posts

Laser induced melting

Hi,
It doesn't matter which version of OpenFOAM has been used for the melting simulation; you can easily change it to your own versions.
After reading your thread, it seems that you are interested to do melting/solidification and
possible ablation process. For melting/solidification you can easily use the existing developed solver available in the forum. And, for ablation, you have to plug in some terms, and it's just a matter of energy balance.

Cheers
Shakil
