OpenFoam Airfoil simulation - replacing Fluent with OpenFOAM

Dear Foamers;

I am a recent user of OpenFoam and I transferred from Ansys Fluent to OpenFoam.

In fluent to solve either steady state or unsteady transient flow over an airfoil we use the far field boundary condition. As far as I know the free stream boundary condition is equivalent to this boundary condition in OpenFoam.

Furthermore, in fluent when we turn on the Farfield boundary and Ideal Gas condition: Energy equation must be solved.

I was wondering how can we set this up in OpenFoam? Is it necessary? Does it affect the accuracy of the solution?

Best Regards

Hi! In OpenFoam you don't "switch on" the energy equation like in Fluent, but you use a different solver (compressible solver). If you find a list of openFoam solvers you will see, that they are divided into the groups incompressible and compressible with steady-state and time-dependent, respectively. So you must pick the solver you need for your case and if you start it, it will tell you which files / specifications are missing.
