OpenFoam 3.0.x Moving Solid Body Through Mesh

Hi,

I am currently running compressibleInterFoam where I have a jet of fluid (water or air, depending on the case) flowing upward into a stagnant body of water. I would like to add a solid body with a pre-programmed trajectory into the body of water. The body can move at a constant velocity in a straight line. What is the best way to solve this problem? The volume is roughly 20meter per side and I would like the body to move 2 to 4 meters near the center of the volume.

I don't think that the standard OpenFoam dynamic mesh tools work because I'm not changing the outer volume. I'm thinking that either an immersed boundary method or re-meshing using dynamicFvMesh. Are examples of either of these options available for Openfoam 2.3 or 3.0?

I have learned that foam-extend 3.2 has some solvers with immersed boundary methods. How difficult would it be to fit compressibleInterFoam with immersed boundary methods?

Thanks,
Leonard Cassady

Hi,
I do not know if you still need the information you requested, but you can find here an instruction how to add immersedBC compatibility to any solver (foam-extend3.2)
