Unhappy Multiphase (particle tracking) steady state OpenFOAM solver

Hello everyone,

I am new to OpenFOAM and have some questions regarding the multiphase flow and particle tracking solvers.

I am working on the simulation of the effect of an open-jet (Ma=0.8, turbulent) on sand particles. I was thinking of using the DPM solver. but I also need a steady state solver, but none of the particle tracking solvers I have found is steady state (talking about the standard solvers).

Does anyone have experience with that and can tell me what to do in this case?

Another Problem is: I have a very low concentration of particles so I don't need the " including the effect of the volume fraction of particles" option.

Hi Raed,

You can try simpleReactingParcelFoam, which is a steadystate solver for particles tracking.

Actually, I am using the same solver as you . And I have been using simpleReactingParcelFoam for quite a while. If you have any other questions about this solver, you can ask me . I mean we can have a deep discussion about this solver.

Do you need to simulate the particle collisions?

Hi Ping,

thanks a lot.
No I am only taking a look at particle wall collisions an no particle particle collisions, since I have a very low parcel concentration.

Just a question about the simpleReactingParcelFoam, is it only 3d or is it possible ti impose empty bc and run a 2d simulation?

I think, yes, with some modifications. Others have gone though this already. The following might be relevant :

I haven't tried it already, but will go through the process soon, with the solver/ approach mentioned there

Hi, Ping.
I got two error when learning this solver. Could you please give me some advice?

E1:"Maximum number of iterations exceeded: 100". This error occurs in the first few iterations(about 3 ) and seems to be related to the h equation.

E2:"Particles cannot be injected". This error occurs when particles are inject.
