Switching from k-epsilon to k-omega in openFoam

Hi everybody.

I'd like to switch from laminar to k-epsilon and then to k-omega for the same model and mesh. This just to have an initialised U & p.
While switching turb model is straightforward in Ansys, in openFoam I understand mapFields is the only (?) way. This is strange to me because the mesh it's exactly the same, only the BC need to change (I just need to add omega when I'll be switching to kwSST.

What I am doing now:
- set startFrom latestTime in controlDict
- add new BC files in the latestTime folder (for instance I added epsilon, nut and k to switch from laminar to turbulent simulation) without modifying the U and p. It apparently works.

Is this an orthodox method or am I lucky? I've only found the mapFields utility in the forum and in the manual.

Thanks a lot! :)

Hi,

Not sure if it's a common way to do things or not but I do things similarly to you all the time, for instance when initialising the solution using potentialFoam or when switching from a static to a dynamic mesh simulation. As long as you know what you're doing you should be fine. I would use mapFields when, for instance, I change the mesh a little or have a few cases using the same initialisation condition (e.g. a few different LES models initialised using the same RANS solution).

All the best,

A

i want to switch turb model from k-w to k-e model

Hi can anyone guide me how to change the turb model from k-w to k-e in openFoam in sciprt ?
