Dear All,

I am writing to ask you a general question about OpenFOAM solvers. I have a X-shaped channel: from inlet-1 air enters; from inlet-2 a different gas mixtures enters. I am sure I do not have any chemical reaction. What I would like to study is the species-transport and - above all - the concentration (and distribution) of O_2 on the outlets. Do you have any suggestion? Which is the right solver? Do you know if there is a tutorial solved?

Hi, you can use reactingFoam with the reactions turned off for species mixing.

Just follow one of the original tutorials and get it to run without reacting.

That's great.
Thanks a lot Tom. I am gonna investigate this solver.

Thanks a lot,
Samuele

Hey Tom,

I was thinking..

..does this solution work with liquids, also?

Thanks a lot,
Samuele

Hi,

Probably not, liquid-liquid mixing is different from gas-gas mixing. It depends on the solubility of the liquids. Think about oil in water or alcohol in water. I guess you need either interFoam or twoLiquidMixingFoam or maybe interMixingFoam, or perhaps even twoPhaseEulerFoam.

Regards,
Tom
