so i've been working on cht and basically i have to create an inverse of planeWall2D problem or multiregion heater to create 2 walls and have air between them. which is basically reverse of planeWall2d which has two air layers and one wall. i'm trying to emulate a fin

Dear nayak,

I guess I am speaking for eveybody if I say that your thread will not be answered based two things:
  • You can imagine that all the people who help are doing a lot of other stuff beside the forum support so telling us that it is urgent or help help help will definitely not improve the mod of the people who are willing to help
  • You really don't tell any problem. The sentence you wrote does not provide any information etc.
If you want to have someone solving your problem -> there are user supports; contact them, pay them. If you are searching for answers to problems, make a clear statement. Otherwise you will not get any feedback. In my opinion you are searching for help in setting up CHT cases. Search in the word wide web and you will find informations about it.

Good luck.

If you don't need to know what happens inside the walls they may be threaten as boundary conditions. You have to specify what should happen at the upper and lower boundary of your air column. Free inflow and outflow? Forced convection? Something else? This has to set with a boundary condition too.

Greetings to all!

@mikestunna: Please don't write questions inside images :(
Since you are asking questions on a public forum, please keep in mind that the objective is that when people help you, others can be helped too in the future. More details are given at the thread: https://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/op...-get-help.html

Transcribing what you wrote on the paper:
Quote:

I need to convert

(hand drawings on the representation for the planeWall2D and for the fin problem that has been asked about)

My question is?
  • What is: Ychar, Yprimas, .*

First to answer the last question on the image:
  • "Ychar" and "Yprimas" are usually chemical composition concentrations or ratios of concentrations.
  • ".*" refers to regular expressions. Search online for "introduction to regular expressions" and you should find several tutorials about it. Essentially the idea is that ".*" allows to select all names from a list, for which an example is given at Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regula...#Lazy_matching

As for setting up the case, if you are using OpenFOAM 2.3 or newer, I'm unfortunately unable to help much in this, because there was a critical change made in OpenFOAM that I still haven't managed to find the time to figure out how it can be properly implemented in the tutorial for the "planeWall2D".

My advice is to take the tutorial case "heatTransfer/chtMultiRegionFoam/multiRegionHeater" as a base for your case and remove the parts that you don't need. In other words, gradually construct your case based on this tutorial case.

Best regards,
Bruno
