Dear All,
I want to solve the problem of steam release to the atmosphere from a pressure relief valve. The release is expected at a height (~30m from ground) in vertically upward direction.
The conditions for pressure, temperature and flow rate are known at the release location, and the atmosphere is at ambient conditions.
My goal is to study how the flow develops once steam is released into open atmosphere, and how it will be affected by the wind.

I would really appreciate, if someone can guide on;

1) What could be good references to look for?
2) Which OpenFoam Solver could be used for modelling this problem?
3) If there are any modeling tips specifically for this kind of problem?

I have attached a simple diagram to explain the problem,
Thank you!

1. Here is a reference for Vapor CO2 dispersion. Steam would be similar. Do a google search on openFoam atmosphere dispersion will also give you some more examples and papers. Mostly to do with dispersion of hazardous materials.

2. rhoReactingBuoyantFoam with reactions and chemistry off for dispersion models similar to what you are describing. Use rhoPimpleFoam example to get started with BC also reference reactingFoam.

3. You can use atmBoundaryLayer like the turbineSiting tutorial in the simpleFoam tutorial
directory. Make sure you have a good quality mesh.

Thank you Kirk Jarvis for your help.
I will definitely look into rhoPimpleFoam as a start for this problem.
