If my problem diverges in OpenFOAM ver3, will it work in 5

Hi,
I'm running a hypersonic ramp problem at around M=6.

The problem diverges in OpenFOAM v3. I tried v5 and it still diverges.

However, I'm wondering if that's the case for all or most problem.

So if a problem diverges in OpenFOAM ver3, will it work in v4 or 5?

Also, if a problem diverges in OpenFOAM ver5, will it work in v3 or 4?

Is there a need to try the different ver?

Of course, I'm saying that all parameters remain the same.

I wouldn't expect it to work like that. Most likely your simulation setup has problem at some point. That wont be fixed be switching the software version.

Hi RobertHB,

Thanks for the reply. My idea is the newer version may have better stability or convergence for some problems. Hence, the solution didn't diverge. Is that possible?

I'm unsure what you are expecting to hear. Of course it's possible that new developments are made that improve stability, such as commit 47c6b9e12e70e0fb73d37cbc634c321d7d849811. Typically though in my experience bugs for the most common solvers are rare, and new features require slight changes to the case setup, so it's unlikely simply running the same case with a different version will produce significantly different results.
