Hello all,

I'm simulating a 3D droplet impact in OpenFOAM. I've done it using many differents approaches and now I'm triying to apply adaptive mesh refinement.

I have some problems when running setFields command in a coarse mesh because it is not capable of interpolate the previous interface onto the new finer mesh but i solved it reinitializing alpha.water, i.e. running again setFields after some time steps.

The thing is that now the interface is ok, but when the drop falls some cells that should be coarsened they are not and i think it could be because of that first time steps when i run that command again. If you take a look at the image attached you can see what i mean.

Settings of the dynamicMeshDict are:
Code:

dynamicFvMesh   dynamicRefineFvMesh;

dynamicRefineFvMeshCoeffs
{

    refineInterval  1;

// Field to be refinement on
    field           alpha.water;

// Refine field inbetween lower..upper
    lowerRefineLevel 0.001;
    upperRefineLevel 0.999;

    unrefineLevel   10;

    nBufferLayers   4;

    maxRefinement   5;

    maxCells        1000000;

    correctFluxes
    (
    (alphaPhi0.water none)
        (phi none)
        (nHatf none)
        (rhoPhi none)
        (ghf none)
    );
    dumpLevel       true;
}
Besides, in the damBreak with obstacle tutorial something similar happens: there are some cells that sohuld be coarsened, see the other image attached (sorry for the diagonal lines, i used foamToVTK in order to work faster in paraView).

Hope you can help me,

Kind regards.

Hi
Check if alpha field is really below your 0.001 threshold
