Hi all,

I'm running a fireFoam simulation with propane as the fuel.
All going well so far.

I was wondering:
1) How do I model smoke?
2) what do the I_Lambda fields mean?
3) any thoughts on sootModels? I'm just exploring this now.

Attempting to briefly answer the questions :

1 : To answer with a question, do you mean soot modeling? If so, check out the smallPoolFire2D tutorial. Also, this chalmers student report : http://www.tfd.chalmers.se/~hani/kur...sh_revised.pdf.

2 : They are used for fvDOM radiation modeling.

3 : Soot modeling is incredibly complex, and the model that exists with the release is very simple. There is a wealth of literature on soot modeling, and quite a few on soot models in OF (e.g. https://www.researchgate.net/publica...using_OpenFOAM).

Thanks heaps for the response.

Indeed I think I do, essentially soot = smoke ? that makes me sound so stupid....

I'm working with just the basics for now, I'll be theres heaps of literature and many different methods.

Thanks for the reference too.

soorry just to check.

so the I_Lambda are what? different radiation frequencies?

If I remember correctly, radiations "rays" used for the discrete ordinate method. I'm sure there is literature floating round on it (there's even a wiki page : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discrete_ordinates_method).
